600/600 beige polished porcelain

hi been to price a job approx 20m of 600/600 beige polished porcelain going from hallway 1300 wide into a kitchen with breakfast bar in i usually charge £25 a metre for 600 porcelain i am also supplying mats concrete substrate just out of curiousity what would peoples price be for this job want to no if am underpricing or not

thanks for the replies lads the charge is £25 without mat i no that seems cheap but there is a lot of competition at the minute about 2 years ago i would get £35 a metre no problem but a lot of tilers locally have dropped there prices so obviously to compete i have had to follow suit thanks again for the replys good to pick other tilers brains

how many door do you have coming off of the hall way? is the skirting and architrave on ? do they want a mat well ?do you have to tile the cupboard under the stairs ? is there access to the house from the rear ? do the plinths need removing and re cutting in ? all these are factors which would effect my price

2 small cupboards coming off the hallway no skirting on no tiling into cupboards plinths needs re cutting not included in price though there is access in the rear of the house through patio doors

had a phone call this morning from the customer to say thanks for calling round but i never got the job a tiler has agreed to do the job for £450 including materials how are you meant to compete with that price

That equates to £22.50 m2 and it includes materials, thats a bit of a crazy price if you ask me, lets break it down a bit further, he will need 5 bags of SPF (if beige porcelain id probably use white) and two bags of a "jasmin" grout, around £100 for that, so hes now down to £350 to fix (£17.50m2 to fix) i will have a guess its not a professional tiler who is doing the job. Take out tax, fuel, ect ect that you need and it makes it even more a silly quote.

More to the truth he will use the cheapest adhesive available, dont bother with white ! Grey grout more than likely.
As for tax, probably not but just a bucket of oats for the horse !

Hi can you come & look at these tiles for me please as they feel loose & there's grout coming out the joints!!
Oh & they sound hollow when I tap them but the are solid sounding in the corners & one bit in the middle..

Just coz he is cheaper does not always dictate a tiler is a cowboy , some are dropping prices to keep in work.

Cannot see how you can shout cowboy etc.

Cheap tilers are always going to be about , it is your choice if you wish to join them.

Im inclined to agree with you on that one Dave, i am seeing prices around the midlands dropping a bit as well.

He might get it done in 2-3days. It might even take him all week
after materials, £350 /3 = £116 per day (gross).

I'd rather earn that than sit at home waiting for a quote to be accepted at £35m2

I always say to customers when a job can be done for that price either the materials are inferior/wrong or the quality of the workmanship will not be of the standard required, or both!!!!!!
