News, Tile Adhesive, Tile Grout
ISO have recently made changes to the 9001 and 14001 accreditations and Instarmac Group plc are proud to announce that during their recent audit they received a positive recommendation for continued registration of OHSAS 18001 and achieved transition to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. Darren Gough, Quality and Operations Manager at Instarmac commented: “This is a fantastic achievement by the team involved as the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 standards will become obsolete in September next year.” ISO have re-written the entire 9001 and 14001 standard to create one framework. The new framework focuses on 10 points, including Context of the Organisation, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operation, Performance Evaluation and Improvement and these points will be applied to all standards to create a uniformed framework for all new ISO certificates. [caption id="attachment_366" align="alignright" width="300"] Tiling Standards: British Standards in Wall and Floor Tiling[/caption] The tiling standards in the UK is the British Standard BS 5385 Wall and Floor Tiling and is available directly from BSI Group. They're really really expensive. The Tile Association provide them as part of their annual subscription. But that's £195 + VAT per year. So still not cheap if you're only using it to gain access to the tiling standards. Our members are pretty savvy, they found out that most local government libraries supply them to their members free of charge, so we had a chat with them to see how it's done. There are a couple of rules doing it this way. You're not allowed to make copies, in whole or in part. But you can…

TilersForums.co.uk provides all of its many services to the wall and floor tiling industry free of charge. The Tile Association is using a comparison to one of the most expensive schemes going, CheckaTrade, but haven't used a comparison against something like our forum. So we've done it to show the differences. You might say it's the difference between oldskool board rooms and new web-based communities. Whilst they're trying to get with the times with their social presence and marketing, they're still using oldskool tactics to sell membership. And tilers aren't thick. They see through things like this on a daily basis in tile showrooms that use the same tactics. TilersForums.co.uk was setup a few years after TTA. And while on their homepage they boast having the most tilers and tile…

This blog category is for all the posts specifically related to tile shops and retailers. Both on and offline. When it comes to tiling, you'll always need tiles. Now in nearly every case you will be buying these from a tile shop, on or offline. We say that because sometimes a tiler or tile contractor will have a trade account with a distributor and will show you tile samples, and they'll organise the tile purchasing, and fix them to your walls or floors, and price you for the lot. That isn't always the case though. It's mostly the customer and / or the tiler buying from a tile outlet. Now there are specialist tile shops offline, like Topps Tiles, Tile Giant, CTD Tiles, and companies like those that primarily sell…

Every tile job needs a tile adhesive. Whether inside or out, walls or floors, small mosaics or huge large-format tiles, they all need to be stuck to the surface that needs to be tiled with a good suitable tile adhesive. Tile adhesives come in many forms because they need to stick so many tile types to so many backgrounds. Some are powders you mix with water, some are in buckets already mixed, and some are powders that come with a bottle of liquid that you carefully mix with the powder. As well as the adhesive 'classes' that specify where they can be used and what tile types they can be used with, you then of course have many tile adhesive manufacturers all over the world selling to the UK tile…
