Hi All,
Fairly new to tile and so far am doing everything by the book in terms of https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive//grout setting times. Was on a job with another tiler recently and after completing the wall tile (roughly 6sq mtrs of 150mm ceramic tiles) i packed up for the day. My plan was to give it 24hrs to cure before going back and grouting up. He commented that he would grout more or less straight away as the https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ looked pretty solid already.
My dilema is this......do you go by the book everytime or use your own judgement and experience to save valuable time.
I was using BAL Grip which saves alot of time rather than mixing up a rapid set.

Answers or views please people..........

you can't grout the same same day with tubbed https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ it needs 24 hrs to set as it dries with air ,wheras most tilers use rapid set which in some cases canbe grouted after 2hrs,if you use the tubbed stuff and try to grout to early you might find the tiles moving or the grout discolouring

your not saving any time using tubbed,as if you had ud=sed cement based you could have grouted the same day saving you the return visit:thumbsup:

It needs AT LEAST 24 hours before grouting. And as Kilty pointed out, you don't actually save time using tubbed https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/.

Generally most of the lads on here fully avoid tubbed adhesives so they know they can grout as soon as possible, and due to a cement-based adhesives range of uses and better thickness tolerances and the likes.

That said, I used to use tubbed https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ as often as I could on plasterboard as a thin bed on a fully tiled bathroom can save you a little time providing the last day (or half day) is grouting only meaning it has had drying time. Though the tiles these days are almost always much larger than when I used to tile so I doubt I'd be getting my tubs out the van so much these days.

Good advice above.. just to add if you grout to early with tubbed dispersion adhesives, then the moisture from the https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/ can stain the grout as it tries to escape via the joints...

Hardly ever use tubbed.
Usually only on very large areas of small format tiles, where will not be grouted same day.
