Got a floor sander coming in from a hire company next week to clean up a gyvlon base prior to tiling.

I've never done this myself before, it's always been done by builders etc. The hire company are unsure of exactly what pads/discs to supply with the machine. Anyone got any ideas?

How long has the screed been down and what machine is it that you have rented?

That will work but you might want to consider dust extraction and ask them to supply diamond cups for that STR because sanding pads wont be sufficient (in my opinion) 180sm should be 2 days work (ish)
good luck
