Hello everyone.

My builder is going to lay my electric UFH today and I want to check he’s doing it right.

I’m having a wet room made, so the chipboard floor has been replaced with 18mm plywood and then ditra mat on top. The shower former is a Tough-X designed to rest directly on joists (The manufacturer has said you can put UFH on top of it).

Today the builder plans to put the UFH cables down and a latex SLC. I’m wondering should that go over the shower tray former as well ?

Ufh is fitted underneath ditra matting if laid as per spec, then latex, then ditra.
Ditra is supposed to be the last layer before the tiles and Schluter do not advocate latex on top of their matting, they did for a period, but now they have changed their spec.
Sorry, but that’s the correct procedure as laid down by Schluter.
It’s not mandatory to latex over cable as long as they are fully encased in https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/, but latex is by far the most efficient way of dealing with it.
It gives a good surface for tile and it better protects the cables and also allows better heat transference between heating and tiles.

Okay well we are where we are with the ditra-mat.

As for the shower tray former, what is the usual method for electric UFH, do the cables go on top of it, I'm guessing you can't put SLC on it.

Yes they can, you can if it’s thick enough not to run down tray.
Or just use tile https://www.tilersforums.com/forums/tile-adhesive/.
