...when this lot of slate fell off the wall.

I'll probably be stripping it right back and starting again but not until summer is over, it's just too damn hot to try and fix anything outside in the sun. I'll be asking about fixing slate if that what he wants again. I suspect it will be as the stairs to the house and outside terrace are all slate.

O dear...looks like the adhesive hasn't bonded with the substrate..
the rest of the wall seems to be painted and looks to me like the adhesive stuck to the paint which wasn't sufficiently bonded to the wall/previous paint coats; so yes I agree the adhesive wasn't bonded to the substrate.
