Hi everyone,
I would like to know if anyone uses a software app to help them with the layout of tiles? If you do what is it called?
Could you also complete the poll to indicate what you do use, cheers.

Are you a software developer ?

No professional tiler needs an app, every job is different and many things to consider

For most tilers, it's rare that they will use any software for setting out. The will go and look at a job and providing they know what tiles are being used or what the customer's requirement is, they'll have a fairly clear picture of where the first tile will start and the last one will end before the even get the tools out the van.

Cad programs are good for diagrams and visuals but you'd need to bear in mind there are variables that may alter cut sizes etc when it comes to physical fixing.

And it can be time-consuming, but I have a lot of time on my hands and mainly use Sketchup with the Twilight Render plugin for doing basic visuals for customers.

Also depending how accurate you want to be with this as if done beforehand you may find tiles tile can be 10mm out as sizes are nominal

Thanks for the responses so far, they are really useful. I am starting another thread that will hopefully describe the type of application I am developing. It seems that there isn't much out there aimed specifically at Tiling, so please see my thought and send me your comments.

Thanks Paul, That looks really great, I am guessing that it doesn't provide a list of material or the tile cuts required but I would think that you could manually count them. Do you find providing this visual helps you winning the job?

Yes I am looking at developing a Tiling Layout design and Estimating App specific to the Tiling Industry which can be quickly configured for most jobs. See my thread. Thanks.
