Messed around royally with dates. Ridiculous deadlines and rushed to complete a shoddy job. Both said the same.
    See my signature?
They want fast and cheap (free), so how can it be high-quality?

I totally get that but surely the worthy cause is worth it? I am sure the finer detail is missed on the build but if someone can spend a week on it and gain the respect of others for doing so (not to mention self pride) that is worth the sacrifice in my eyes.

    I'm too cynical.
I bet the production company makes a tidy profit selling the show.
If they were producing the show out of the goodness of their hearts, that would encourage me to do the same!

Fair game to anyone wishing to volunteer to help others in need.
I don't pick fault with the standard of work any more, I stopped watching the show years ago when they moved on from doing one room(at a time) programmes!

On the flip side I'm sure somebody on here did one and said it was awesome PR for their business and they went out for tea with them and had a laugh. Said it was hard work though.

I going to play devil's advocate here but all this talk about good causes . How many on here when they get asked to do a bathroom for a disabled person will look up and say don't worry it's free . But because it's on the telly you do it . Also no mention on titles at end of show who did the work . I'm now going to put on my flak jacket .

My son and I did Better Homes with Carol Vordeman in 1999 and it was a great experience!
Had to work through the night because the Orangery Co took so long to be in every filming shot that we were under extreme pressure to complete by the Friday deadline.
The house we worked on with designer George Bond won and had the greatest increase in value of any of the properties in the life of the programme. Mind you there must have been £50k worth of investment for a £10k increase!!! And the budget from Granada TV was £3k. The other house was so inferior in quality that the people were paid hush money.
For this Big Build project in the SW, the charitable slant is what wins with this programme and good luck to everyone who takes part.
You may even be talking about it in 18 years time.
