Hello,

Looking for some advice on a very small basement shower room job I have on.

Currently stripped back to brick, drainage installed, about to receive mesh membrane to walls and floor.

What's the best product to dot and dab onto membrane to receive the tiles?

What's the best solution to tiling the membrane on the floor? I'm assuming a Screed but can't really afford to lose the height. Current floor is concrete slab, no cracks, nice and flat. Any other options?

Thanks in advance.

As regards to the walls I believe the mebrane companies have special waterproof wall plugs so I would probably suggest getting them to batten the walls for you to fix tile backer to . The reason i say this is any dot a dabbed surface that is to recieve tiles requires mechanical back up and that includes plaster board which should receive nine hammer fixings per board as per british gypsum spec . As for the floor probably a screed would be the best way to go because you need enough weight to hold the membrane down properly. I would suggest an anhydrate screed which could be applied thinner than a sand and cement screed

I would screed the floor as above, frame the walls with 50x50 softwood framing pre-treated of course and free standing ( no fixings breaching membrane) and insulate between studs, then board.

Thanks for the replies.

I can't afford the space to frame or batten, the room is only 2.4 x 1.2

Also there is an existing saniflow (with no NRV!) which is staying put so raising the floor level is really not practical. How about Ditra matting on the concrete floor and butyl taping to the membrane on the walls. The basement isn't really wet, just a few damp patches at wall/floor junction.

Okay, have you considered a cement based tanking system for the floor and walls , you can tile direct onto this.
