Can someone help please - in desperate need of some advice. Got my wet room tiled and have been left with what they've told me is an envelope cut but when I googled envelope cut, they are all symmetrical and look aesthetically pleasing compared to mine in my opinion. Does this look like a shoddy job to you experienced people?

drain in my opinion is in wrong place, shower screen is too short, and the cuts should be directed to the corner of the drain cover.
cant understand why its been done like this...

Thanks so much for your reply. They said there's a joist running to the left hand side of the drain so it had to be in that position and when I asked about the cuts and why they didn't meet the corner of the drain and why one cut was longer than the other they said it was down to the tray. Feel like I've been had a bit because I know nothing about it but it just doesn't seem to look right to me.

Yes. Definitely "had" as you put it.
They just didn't have a clue what they were doing with that I'm afraid.

if it doesn't look right, guess what... its not right. tiling is very much an aesthetics thing

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Obviously the tiles would have to be lifted and replaced and if they were to leave the joist in the same place because of supposed joist - is it reasonable of me to expect cuts to be symmetrical and meet corners of drain?

I mean drain in the same place

They have told me the water wouldn't drain properly without the cuts done where they are

the joist could be cut and a trimmer fitted to support the joists. this woul enable the drain to be moved further to the wall... then you could retile to the drain corners and create the symmetry that the job deserves.

Joist being cut and trimmer fitted sounds like a big job (well in my naivety anyway) is it?

I knew I had been but they did their very best to talk me down with tiling jargon to stop me from questioning them
