Afternoon,
I really can't get over the state of new build houses in the modern era. Why is it that we have at our fingertips all the gadgets and knowledge to possibly knock the pants off what used to be built many years ago and in some cases it just can't be done!
For instance I'm currently working in a new build today and over a 3.5 mtr distance on the floor it's 1/2 inch out of square!.
For me personally I'm greatful that I live in a 30's house, solidly built and character in abundance. Moan over back to work o_O

Time's Ran Out

Time is money.
Character costs money.
People don't want to pay too much money.

However pride doesn't cost any more, it's all about attitude.

I hate new builds so much I don't really see them as proper houses anymore, more like prefabricatied cardboard dolls houses, if I meet some new people who have just moved into a new house I don't envy them like "ooh look at you with your fancy new house and rented 17 plate BMW on the drive" I just think oooh you poor sods, I hope you like squeeky floors, long cracks, leaky guttering, poorly fitted bathroom and kitchen, postage stamp for a garden and loose entrance flags.

Can anyone see these "New Builds" still being here in 50-100 years time. As for not wanting to spend much money........these cardboard boxes are ridiculously priced with postage stamp gardens and space for 1 car if your lucky.

All these new estates are shocking.........bloody rabbit warrens.

My rant over ;)

Who knows what it costs say Redraw in just materials alone to build a typical 4 berth shoe box?
Must be something like ÂŁ35,000?

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss how long they will be around , the yanks have been building out of timber forever and there is a wimpy estate near me that is timber framed 40 years old and doesn't show any signs of falling down anytime soon .

I had to tile a stud wall that was 30mm out of plumb over 2.3m height!!!

This is why I don't do site work and prefer to do my own prep.

They are terrible quality with no real passion put into them, the workers are usually crap and don't care, and the constriction company's just care about the profit. I have worked on some really expensive new builds and there no better, just bigger! My house was built around 1890 and it's packed full of character and I wouldn't have it any other way

That shouldn't of complied with building regs . But large developers can run their own building regs , surely a conflict of interest

You should pay a visit to the Poundbury development in Dorset, now that is a rabbit warren! Not to mention it's all being overseen by Prince Charles :mask:
