I dont know the answer to this so I'm going to ask.

So you've got your manual tile cutter and a wetsaw set up so why would you need to cut free hand with a hand held grinder pumping plummes of dust around the place or on the driveway?

What is the need for it?

Must admit I'm very much in the wet cutter group.......never used a grinder, however seeing how popular they seem to be I've been thinking of investing in one.
Do you get the same level of cut you get with a wet cutter?
Is it easy keeping a straight line ?
What would be a decent entry level grinder and blade ?
As you can't use it indoors (I use my wet cutter indoors with adequate dust sheeting) .......too what advantage is there using a grinder, if your stuffed when it's raining and you have to keep going up and down stairs to cut a tile..?

It's like any new technique you try Andy, takes practice for sure.
It's never gonna be a wet cut, not without some polishing afterwards, but the question will be, does it need a wet cut?
If it does, then use a wet cutter, I'd say probably 90% don't need to be though.
As we speak I'm cutting an alcove out the middle of a full bodied 1200 x 600 and mitering it, try that with a wet cutter.
Entry level for a decent grinder around £50-£60, but if you're thinking of it I'd strongly suggest the Bosch gws 7-115E from protilers for another £20, you'll then have a variable speed grinder too!
It has an 11000rpm top speed, so ample for cutting.
Blades? Now there's a minefield!
£10-£100 take your pick.
If the property is currently occupied, then cutting inside is difficult, you can reduce the dust dramatically with a cowl fitted for dust extraction with a vacuum.
If you've used a wet cutter for 30 yrs Andy then the transition will be awkward at times, it's a bit of suck it and see really, after that amount of time.
But if you warm to it, you'll find yourself using your wet cutter less and less, that's for sure.

I think for tile kitchens walls or floors or any downstairs floor for that matter it would be an advantage as your never far from an outside space and can imagine it's easier than having to set up a wet cutter...
What are cordless grinder like ?

What are cordless grinder like ?

A lot swear by them, I have one but don't use it often, don't know why really.
I use it more often in the room if something needs grinding out or removing, something like that, mainly cos it's quick and easy.
It'll cost you a lot more money tho haha

I use the Bosch one the non variable one, screw fix sell it. I'm a convert from a wet cutter, I use the ats turbo blades for porcelain. I wouldn't go back. I still use a small wet cutter for small metros and such like. Try it out, it's a small out lay, less than £100.

May as well get the variable speed for hardly any more money, even if you don't see a benifit at this present time.

Hehe! :D
