Default Tile License

To my American Friends,

I have had an email from a Citizen of the US who thought we were a Tile School. Obviously as we're not I simply replied asking him to visit the CTEF but I'd like to be able to provide useful information in the future.

So, could anybody please let me know how one would obtain a Tile License in the US?

Question

I have family living in the US ... Montgomery - Alabama, one of my aunts has so much land with her property it's almost criminal. We have often spoken of going over there and she always says to me she'll give me some acres and I can have a house built!?!?

Just out of interest ... I assume from the main posts in this thread that a tiler requires licensing in many states of the US.
What is involved in gaining this license?

I also see that in the state of Alabama you require license for home improvements above $10,000, does this mean you do require a license to tile as your trade?
I notice the neighboring state of Georgia requires no licence.

Sorry to be longwinded, maybe someone in the US could clarify what you would need to do to trade as a tiler in the US and states of Alabama, Georgia etc ... assuming you have been accepted to live & work in US.

Jim Carlin may be able to help there mate. Give it a day or two and then PM him if he hasn't replied already. You could always give the state license board a call though (334) 242-2230 from the UK that would be 001 334 242 2230

First off you don`t need a license to tile in the US, what you see is a requirement to licence your self as a self employed contractor/sub-contractor ,but just because your licenced, don`t mean you can tile or any thing else for that matter!

No tests for tiling or much of any thing ,except electrician & plumbing & even there in some states you don`t need a licence or certifacation to do that trade except in the states that do require electrician & plumbing which means you gota go to school & pass a test or appentice with some one , study for the test then pass the test & every so often be re tested .

So to clarify , the only license you need for tiling in some states is that states registration of your intent to operate as a trade/ business .

I live in a state with no license requirements , I lived & worked in Georgia, US & had to file for a license , & back then it was $25 us.

White sand & blue water !!!

Ok, so it's just registrering that you work in that trade.
