The dry pack slope system is cool.
There was however no vapor barrier behind the CBU and no product such as Kerdi to prevent water from getting behind the tiles.
There are numerous waterproofing systems both liquid and impervious membranes such as Kerdi or Noble membrane system or Laticrete hydroban liquid or Mapei HPG or Redguard.
When these systems are use over the CBU's vapor barrier behind on the studs is not desired or necessary.

The bottom of the framework had no blocking placed between the studs.
Should have installed 2X8 blocking there.
All around the perimeter of the base.

The folded corners create a nice little bump which makes for difficult to fit corners when tile is being installed.
Under the vapor barrier (if you are not using a waterproofing system) you can attach furring strips to raise the height to allow the CBU to go over the folded corners with no hassles, plus it help eliminate wicking.

Silicone does not make a good waterproofing when used in conjunction with concrete as it does not form a good bond.
Better to use Mapei Hpg or Laticrete hydroban.

The shower seat should never be installed the way they showed unless you want leaks.
(And what happens when an overweight person wants to sit on such a little ledge???)
Better to build the seat out of masonry or high density styrofoam inside the stall.
No chance of leaks then.

I install soap ledges in the corners and they are flush with the backer board and tiles are cut flush around them.

Niches should always be waterproofed using a membrane or a liquid.
Or Noble makes a nice preformed sytofoam insert.
