Seal the Deal
Hello Again, Magic Friends....
LOFTHOUSE STONE encourages "Sealing the Deal". That's right, at least seal the grout, twice.
This leaves the customer with a strong sense of a worthwhile investment. I have recently switched back to a water based, spray on sealer, applicable within two hours of grouting. I follow this process by a simple hand buff.
The Miracle Brand Petro-Based sealer I previously used was very volatile (to my mucus membranes), I still wear a mask with the safer versions. I just despise paying $39.00 a quart for something that makes the home unsafe for even a tad. No sealer lasts a lifetime.
I think there is some truth to the fact that water molecules are large transporters (vehicles for administering sealer), and petro/chemical based are substantially smaller and therefore suitable for small pores in certain stones. However, my water test passed, no penetration after 2 applications. That's right, the water did "bead" up at the surface.
I like to offer a maintenence option within 6 months, they can call me back and for $60 I will apply cleaner/sealer. (change the price to fit the area and circumstance). Of course, just advise them to take care of their stone, and specify the products. Most are happy to implement this into their cleaning schedule. I'm careful to encourage care, but not oversell the idea.....which creates panic. You should make this announcement towards the completion of installation, or shortly thereafter.
You're being honest, and doing your best to conserve your efforts and "Masterpiece". Most clients will appreciate this, so it is not in vein.
Best of Luck,
Randy Lofthouse

Re: Seal the Deal
Hi guys,
I was just introduced to a new product in Europe that was used for a perfect finish of the joints. You should try CornerTape the next time you do the corners.
