Any good contractors?
Hi,
My wife and I just buy a house in San Diego, and we are first time home owner, so we know little about home improvement, such as flooring -- hardwood floor and ceramic tile. Can anybody recommend some good contractors?
BTW: Can we save money by buying materials and hiring professionals both from HomeDepot?

Re: Any good contractors?
Home depot subs out their work to another company who pays a fraction of what they bill the customer to the actual installer.
Better to hire an installer direct.
Go to some of the tile supply stores where installers buy their materials like Dal tile and others and they usually have a board with cards on it and could recommend some knowledgeable contractors who would be happy to help you.
Some of HD materials are good quality and others are not.
Best thing is to look around at a variety of places before you actually buy anything.

The last time I was in the US I had a good look round a couple of Home Depots

Re: Any good contractors?
Yes, Welcome to the US, now make friends with a good General Contractor or Design Center. They should be happy to recommend to you, a trustworthy Tile and Stone Contractor/Flooring.
As a Tile & Stone professional, I prefer to work directly with the Homeowner. The less people (businesses) involved, the better success and efficient cost of the project. However, make sure to ask for a portfolio (photos of past and recent projects) Three references and such, go a long way.
Best of Luck.
