Default starting tools

evening all, can any1 tell me what size trowels i will be needing most when i manage to start up my own career as a tiler and also what other major tools of the trade will i need, you all may think why am i asking this now when i havent even done the course yet, well when i manage to get on the course iwant to use all my own tools so i can break them in and not go to my first job with all new shin y tools, cheers guys

Hi Mate,

As a atrting point;

Main tools

*Dry Cutter (at least 400mm)
*Nips
*Filre
*Wet saw
*Couple of spirit levels (different lenghts
*Plastering/ cement trowel
*Grout float
*tape measure or folding rule
*Hammer
*Bolster/ cold chisel
*Jigsaw for ply wooding

extras

*Feather edge/ straight edge
*Hole saws
*Spear tiped tile drill bits
*Sand paper
*Work bench

you could add much more as you get on with things. Most other general hand tools also come in handy at some pioint

When I did my course I used the tools provided. This gives the opportunity to see if they "fit" if you know what I mean. Dry cutters are an example. My course gave us the chance to use two different makes of cutter - Rubi and Montolit - having used both and saw advantages in each, I ended up buying Montolit. If you buy in advance how do you know the stuff will suit you?

screwdrivers, dust sheets + old towels for lining someones bath(dont want want to chip), masking tape, blue paper roll.... just some of the stuff you may find you need....not exactlly major tools but it hope it helps....there is a lot more you need than just the tools.... you probably know that anyway but just in case as it is an eye opener and when you tot it all up.....

my back aches....

You will need a trowel for mosaics a 6mm trowel and either a 8mm or 10mm for floors

Hi mate, I`ve just started out as well and i bought:

Rubi TS50+ dry cutter
Plasplugs mastertiler wet cutter
Rubi 6 x 6 trowel
Rubi nippers
Karl Dahm washboy
Karl Dahm silicone kit
4 x spirit levels
3 x bags of various spacers
mixing paddle
4 x grout sponges
various buckets
dust sheets
bucket trowel
wd 40
insurance

.....and a few other odds and sods and so far I`ve spent around £700. Will buy more trowels as i need them but hopefully this will give you some idea.
