Rubi STAR-40-N-Plus Tile Cutter - Advice please
Evening all,
I'm just getting back into business after being employeed by a company for the past couple of years.
Unfortunately i sold my TR-60 as the company supplied all my tools. I've just landed my first job, still missing my Rubi.
I was going to buy a Rubi STAR-40-N-Plus Tile Cutter to get this job done, however i need to cut 300x300 polished porcelain, will i be relying on my wet cutter to these or will the little rubi cope. Trying to get back up and running spending as little as possible as i have no start up cash. Bit of a plunge in at the deep end scenario.
Thanks in advance.

if you can't afford a tx or similar go for the big clinker, it's had good reviews on here with porcelain and only costs about a 100

Re: Rubi STAR-40-N-Plus Tile Cutter - Advice please
Ditto Mike, big clinker is excellent value and deals with pretty much anything, bear in mind it will start to become a little inaccurate after 6 months or so, I'd consider it to be a disposable cutter that has a 12 month life span.

Cheers for the advice

Hi aligate welcome the furom my advice to you is if you are considering staying on your own try stretch your spending to getting a ts600 or even better a tx because a lot of tiles nowadays are 600x600 or 600x300 so in the long run you'll need one of these or you will have to hire one. But I wish you luck

Im with Mike on that, the ts or ts+ will not cut a decent porcelain tile.
We have both & we couldnt cut 600x600 polished porcelain tiles last week.
I just put a thread up last week about a new cutter, some good advice from the lads, worth a read through.

I used a ts 600 for years and we just used to scribe the tile and dink it on tile top of the cutter and it was fine for us unless you have to do small cuts. I have a tx 700 now and there is Big difference so yes your right the tx range is better but more expensive

Re: Rubi STAR-40-N-Plus Tile Cutter - Advice please
I had the TR-600 for years before and found that perfect for quality porcelain. It struggled every so often if i was cutting a 600 tile, but i found that different style of breaking arm a lot better than the independent breaker on the TS models.
I know i'm going to have to invest in a big rubi at some stage, most people are opting for the porcelain or stone tiles nowadays, so i'll need one.
On another note, i noticed theres a gallery on this forum. Is there any rules to posting pictures of your work, or am i free to just post away?

I have a Rubi STAR-40-N-Plus Tile Cutter which I bought for splashbacks and small format tiles, its a dinky little cutter. I use a Rubi TX700 for 600mm x 600mm porc. Have you considered a Montolit? Whatever you decide to get a 700 size cutter seems to be better for 600mm tiles.

I have a rubi star and it won't touch porcelain. It will scribe it fine but dosnt have the breaking power at all.

I use a TR400S for small tiles and a TX900N for large ones. I had a TS60Plus and had the same problem that you describe. HOWEVER, I looked at the Rubi site and read some small print that advised to score the tile 3 or 4 times for hard porcelain. I followed this advice and it cut even 15mm thick porcelain no problem, whereas scoring it once caused no ends of chipped edges etc.
I wouldn't get another TS though, think it is a crap design personally.
