, i only use round notch trowels for all floors , plus back skim tiles with flat edge , enables 100% coverage , i.e solid bedding, for walls depends on tile , 6mm for ceramics , for larger format tiles i would go 10 mm round notch and again back skim all tiles

in some cases ive used 18mm round notch for large tiles 600x600, using ptb addy , hopes this makes sense

Different size depending on the tile. Best bet is to put some addy on then put on the tile making sure to twist it in. After doing that remove the tile and check the back is completely covered. Your also looking to have your addy 3mm thick with the tile on and no excess coming out of the sides and between tiles.
