hi there.
i have been cutting mine with a hack saw and a home made miter block. the accuracy isnt 100% but its fairly close and it wont cut shower trim.iv seen cutters that are like a handheld guilitine.
how do these cutters work. will they squash the trim or leave a gap in the miter. i need a better miterblock (for metal) but they are slower and need a larger working space.

Just a mitre block and a hacksaw with a 32 teeth per inch blade.

I use an angle grinder, diamond disc for plastic and metal cutting disc for aluminium/Chrome

Try not to use plastic these days. Polished or satin metal looks quality and use square blocks for internal/external corners. Customers love them 2011-02-10_13-45-34_975.jpg

i have to agree that it doesnt look that great on the ends if their exposed. what way do you end on the top of a bath or shower tray

Hi Alan, good tight fit to wall, seal bath/shower tray prior to tiling. Then again after tiling

Didnt think anybody used anymore, cause more problems than they solve in my opinion.

We still use bath seals on site,

As Gall says they cause more problems than they solve.

I hate them but if the site wants them in then we have to use them.

After a couple of years the rubber seal starts to discolour from the plastic that its attached to.

New builds .. The floors/joists settle etc and then the bath sinks and crap gets in... same with domestics, all the crap gets under the poo rubber seal and then stinks and causes mould... should be banned imo ..

I've took more failed bath seals out than I've fitted. Very bad design, they should be banned imo

im a bit confused. all of the trim im thinking of dont have rubber etc. the type i see most here is sealux(sp ) All About Trimlux Seal For Shower Tray or Bath.
is this the trim type you are talking about.

Alan, plz don't take this the wrong way mate.... but yep.. all still DIY based trims.. and look pants within a pro installation.

no offence taken. your the xpert. i know very little about tiling. iv seen a lot of pro tilers here use those ones. .

so i take it that most of you use a saw and miter box to cut the trim. im dubious about those handheld trim cutters . they look like they would squash the trim and give a poor miter joint.

it seams to cut it good enough but he didnt put the pieces flat on the table. when their flat there could be a gap. also that trim he used was very well suported by itself, not like a big quarter round trim that would have no plastic under the cut to support it.

Hi Alan, as Dave said don't take it the wrong way but generally they do look poor.

What I find is if you cut them to about 1.2m long they don't impinge on the wheelie bin lid shutting firmly down!!!

You can dress corners up with a file to get miters spot on.. if using tile edging trims.

i think i will avoid those shower trims. im still unsure if i should get one of those for the normal trim

agree with all comments regarding bath seals , waste of money

The trim snips are part of my tiling kit and have been for years. On plastic trim there is nothing to match them they are fast precise and clean. The trim in the vid is standard homelux trim but the snips will work on the cheapest of trims. you may need to practise with them for a bit but that is the same as any new tool.

a bit of an update.
i bought one of those trim snips from trade tiler.
im not convinced. i put a new blade in it . still wouldnt cut the trim (8 or 10mm round trim).
design allows the blade to hit the aluminium casting bluntening it.

it wont cut a true 45. it pushs the trim away as it cuts or squashes it ruining the miter. it is open on the top .
i think the probelm is the double edged blade type. if it was a one bevel blade it would cut straighter
i wouldnt reconmend it.
il go for one of those fansy yellow miter boxs in my next order
