    Default plugs for porcelain

What plugs do you guys use for hanging heavy items onto porcelain over plasterboard?

Returned to a job today to get paid and plumber has made a right hash of hanging a shelf and cleared off on holidays.

Shelf needs 2 holes either side and he's drilled one 10mm hole next to a 6mm hole, and on opposite side we have an 8mm hole and a half drilled 8mm hole. lol.

what plugs would you use? Theres a reasonable amount of weight in the shelf too.

    Thanks.

id drill 10mm through the tile and then 6/7mm through the plasterboard and use plasterboard plugs in the pb. don't hang the shelf on the tiles

As above, you have to plug the substrate and not the tiles.
Plugging tiles can result in cracked tiles when screws are tightened.

thanks, my only worry is that he's blasted straight through with t.he 10mm and made a mess of the board behind.

Theres not much room to be drilling new holes either as the screw points are quite near to the edge of a circular base plate onto which the shelf hangs. If you get the picture?

Is this a stud wall ? If so then use toggles.

if you ever struggle with a hole opened up too much in a render/plasterboard wall, gripfill a piece of wood tightly in the hole. next day it will be solid to screw into

    !
    We also recommend using
    Red plugs for 6mm

    Brown plugs for 8mm

Both the 6mm and 8mm are available from our site as diamond core hole saws

Here shown drilling 8mm holes into very hard porcelain tiles:

The 6mm and the 8mm cores come with either a £29.99 pack
Or for an extra £20 quid you get the full pack above which has the large cores.
They are 16mm 30mm and 40mm diamond holesaws.

The 16mm is perfect for drilling 5p sizes "cores" or "plugs" out of a tile for rawl plugs.
By making a fairly large hole in a tile the fixing is sure not to rest on the tile.

In this project the hole is open up to 16mm and a 10mm anchor bolt pushed in (Size M6 or M8)

As you can see the rawl plugs of 10mm 12mm 14mm will all fit a 16mm diamond core hole
Above you can see the size is 16mm (marked in pen bottom left)
The bolt shown through the tile doesnt catch the tile
The rawl plug (grey) is 14mm and slips though the 16mm hole.

But for small holes only we carry the 6mm and 8mm packs

Above shown a series of 8mm holes for
    1) Toothbrush holder
    2) Soap Dish
    3) Toothbrush Glass

Sorry guys yes to clear up any confusion (or maybe to add to it....)

    We were trying to say:

    !
    We also recommend using
Red plugs [at 5.5mm/6.0mm] for use with our 6mm diamond cores

Brown plugs [at 7mm] for use with our 8mm diamond cores

We do kind of get a bit shorthand and really when it comes to the 6mm diamond cores and the 8mm diamond cores of course there are a range of rawl plugs and colours that fit with our brand
but we try to show the difference and its easier to say 6mm is red and 8mm is brown.

There I think I have really muddied the water... (I dont think I even understand my own post)
