    He's just gone. haha

Though he's subscribed to the thread so should get an email about it. It'll take a couple of hours to get back though I think so I'm sure he'll pop on later.

The big question, why can't they build the case hinges differently so that they last as long as the cutter and not have too be patched / bungie corded etc

I'll second that...... And £60 for a replacement is ridiculous.....!

It's the wrong carbide they are using it's to brittle on the porcelain I know from my engineering days some were tougher and some were harder I think they could solve it if they spoke to a specialist or had some for ceramics a different colour for porcelain

Standard nippers are not designed for porcelains etc..

You should be using these.. Rubi Porcelain Tile Nippers. Contractors Direct.

Hi everyone sorry it has taken so long to get back on. Right lets start at the beginning, Nippers, most of you are using ceramic nippers on porcelain that's why they don't last you need porcelain nippers that are more expensive and some would say much harder to use but standard nippers will not last on porcelain. 83942 is the Rubi book number for porcelain nippers (any good stockist). Carry cases hmm ahh yess hmm, In my 28 years of tiling I have fallen fowl of the dredded plastic case so I am in the mist of sending a product update to Spain that will put a steel pin right across the back of the case. This will cure the problem if they go for it I am just abit worried what it will do to the cost and if they go for it don't hold your breath waiting as Spain don't move fast.

How about a service on a TR600 Gary? Who does them?

Or should a user just check for what parts need replacing and then just order them and chance the bits themselves?

    Hi grumpygrouter

Why don't you contact your area rep and he will be able to do a calibration test on it as it may be something simple. Any stockist will be able to get hold of your rep.

Every machine that is manufactured by Rubi has a complete break down of parts and numbers. All your stockist has to do is phone head office and ask for a break down fax or Email and a picture of whatever machine you have will be sent back and simply look at the picture and order the part number. Its pretty fail safe.01708559609. hope that helps.

It wasn't just the jaws chipping,, The handle sleeves fell off as well within a week.
I found a cheaper solution, Return to my cheaper "budget" nippers that can handle ceramics and porc etc

Hi mate I must admit I always found cheap nippers done the job years ago. I remember years ago cheap nippers seamed to last forever. I think Rubi are know exception quality has wayned and cost go up but sometimes cheap is good. I blame this damm porcelain stuff, what ever happened to a day on ceramics and at worst you did a bit off vitrefied work, (Damm porcelin) he he he
