addy mixer
Just been looking at lidl web site and noticed they will be selling a paint/addy/plaster mixer for just £39.99. If your a newbie then this may be a good buy to get you started. I have bought tools from Aldi before and they have been very good quality for a good price, but not bought from lidl before but have read that their tools are of good quality aswell and at £39.99 even if it lasts a year it would be a good buy. What are your thoughts.

Re: addy mixer
Tools from aldi and lidl? Never been in one so cant really comment on them.
I use a proper tool supplier as you have much more backup in case something goes wrong. A 110v mixer packed up for some reason and I had a replacement the next day. That was over 12 years ago and its still going strong, not cheap at £400 but powerful and dependable.
I very much doubt that these shops sell tools designed for heavy everyday use?

Re: addy mixer
Looks a good buy for under £40, 1400 watt and a 3 year warranty. If i remember i'm going to pop in and have a look at one.

Re: addy mixer
Had 2 mixers in approx 12 years and only replaced first one when it got pinched!
Both Rubi and now they are only about £100 now through major tile suppliers.
Like the cheap wet cutters they serve a purpose for a particular market but for everyday use between pension day, bingo and holidays its worth getting a good one.

Re: addy mixer
I've had my dewalt mixer for over 5 years and paid under £200 for it, but at £40 it's almost disposable and if it doesn't need to be used every day then could be a cheap alternative....

Re: addy mixer
I've never bought a non-branded tool and they have always lasted at least 3 years. At 40 quid it's got to be worth a go surely? My grandad gave me a chop saw that he got from Aldi and I've only used it a couple of times (don't do much woodwork!) and in fairness it's not bad, I think the make is Parkside.

Re: addy mixer
The tools from Aldi Lidl are normally good buys and German stuff to, need to be quick tho cos the tools normally fly of the shelves, think im going to get one for private jobs.

Re: addy mixer
I find these tools are ok for mixing a bit of adhesive, you try mixing dry wall adhesive and plaster they won't last that long.

Re: addy mixer
A few thoughts on Aldi / Lidl tools.
While they may be German owned supermarkets, that doesn't mean the tools are made in Germany.
Similarly, I heard Screwfix has got a bit of a reputation for giving its “own brand” power tools nice sounding German names so you naturally think quality, whereas in fact the tools are [maybe] not from Germany. And now they're owned by the same group as B&Q, you see the same tools, albeit with different makers names, in the DIY store.
All this kit is “inexpensive” as it comes bulk from China. Just look at some of the trade websites like Made-In-China and you'll recognise these tools; the only problem is they want to sell you a 40 foot container full of them.
But there are a couple of differences with the Aldi / Lidl offerings.
First they offer the DIYer a 3 year warranty
(sorry, trade use doesn't qualify!)
Second is price - you often see exactly the same tool with someone else's badge on for 2-3 times the cost. Have a look at the Vitrex mixer and play spot the difference (other than a 10mm smaller paddle and the £90 v £40 price tag). I've even seen Wolf products that are identical, and years ago they used to be a sound British brand.
For the home user, its hard to justify the cost of the Eibenstock and Rubis (a non-exhaustive list of quality mixers). But for the trade user, there is another question: if it fails while on a job, will that cost more than you save on the purchase price. Perhaps not on a domestic job, maybe on a commercial one.
Having said all this, I did buy one
.
In the box you get a 130mm 3-helix (rapid/intensive) paddle. That'd be a tenner, so the motor only really cost £30.
My first experience with wasn't great. No matter how hard I pushed the on button all I got was noise but no rotary motion.
As has been my experience with Aldi / Lidl, an exchange was no hassle
.
So far I've had the replacement for a couple of weeks and on light duties I have no complaints. I'll post an update after some more heavy use ...
And it would be interesting to hear how others get on with them as Aldi / Lidl tend to repeat the same tools every 9-15 months.
