A mate did that to my old jig. Similar thing, his router didn't have an electric brake and he pulled the router out before it had stopped spinning.

Repaired it with car body filler and it was fine. I did go a bit loopy at the time but in all honesty once filled it was as good as new.

In most circumstances car body filler is harder than most types of timber you would fill so you run the risk of damaging surrounding areas when sanding, but jigs are fairly hard so the filler sands down easier than the surround good edges of the jig, so you can get it nice a straight again.

I would suggest getting a pack of filling blades rather than use a filling knife, these are much more flexible so you have a greater deal of control when filling small areas. Less excess filler, less chance of causing more damage when sanding back.

You can get a set of filling blades for about £2 or the posh ones (wooden handle) are about £6

it's a trend router too, as you probably know, it has a on/off switch and no trigger. my old makita router had a trigger and i never had this problem. i need to get in the habit of checking its in the off mode before plugging in. lucky i wasn't changing the cutter as it was plugged in! thanks a lot for that by the way c.r.

My Dewalt has a flick switch just by the handles and it's funny as today I got it out the box, plugged it in and it was in the on postion Which is the first time i've ever done that.

My heart sank as I raced across the room to pull it off my jig, one of the guys was wetting himself at the look of my face. Then asked why the hell didn't I just unplug it instead of running across the room In the panic all I cared about was the jig so I run to its rescue, although I was lucky as I never have it plunged unless i'm holding it.

In fact this is me today

Them clamps any good? I never trusted used them as they always look a bit on the weak side?

Im amazed at how many companies do really bad joins in work surfaces. I think its one of the most important parts fo the whole job, that and nice tight mitres on the cornice/pelmet. I guess thats just from working in finishing trades for too long

I work in a lot of new kitchens and that's exactly how I initially judge how good the fitter is. If those are good then the rest of the kitchen probably is.

as in every trade there's cowboys, i've just changed some worktops fitted by mfi and the only screws in the worktop were through the tall oven housing into the side of the tops. i had to take the oven out to remove them

They are mate and it's only by accident I used them for that. I normally use those Magic Clamps for holding units together before fixing and my Irwin quick clamps for holding down the jig. But I forgot the Irwins and was surprised that the Magic clamps opened wide enough to take the WT & jig.

They really are quite powerful and hurt a lot when clamped on a finger, or so my one of my guys tells me

I really do rate them, it's funny as they are quicker than my Irwins as with a single squeeze and they are locked into place rather than multiple squeezes with an Irwin. So if you are making adjustments to postioning it really does speed up the process.

The irwins of course have more uses but for kitchen fitting I wouldn't be without these now.

I know what you mean but isn't always the case, many times a builder may bodge in the kitchen then get a kitchen fitter in for the worktops as they can't do the masons mitre themselves

I always think the cornice and pelmets are the dead give away!

Yeah i'm loving my new one too. The LS1018L is a top bit of kit. Was it you who started that thread a few weeks back? If so that was the reason for me opting to go with the Makita

Sandy im with you all the way there, its a pet hate of mine, lining up the units etc is a doddle but the finishing touches are the bits that counts. I did refit for a mate last year and his dad is the local building inspector, he said the worktop joins were the best he had seen.

I also have one of these for mitres:
MORSO GUILOTINE MITRE MACHINE PICTURE FRAMING on eBay (end time 22-Mar-11 2028 GMT) perfect 45's everytime. I bought it last year as it was cheap and i couldnt leave it on ebay at that money, it was also in a worse state when i got there and they begged me to take it away along with an underpinner.

I told myself I'm not going to use it for laminate and keep the old Dewalt for that but to be fair I haven't fitted lamninate it quite a while now as engineered has come down so much in price that it's now in most peoples price range.

How much did you pay for the balde and where from mate?

Im looking to get back into the kitchens and just missed out on a shop
