Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
Just bought myself a new TX-700-N from Dave at Tradetiler, which has come with size 10 and 18 wheels. I have tried the No.10 on a 300x600 tile, cuts great, but the edge is a bit ragged!
It is me, or the wheel I am using? Never used one of these cutters before!
Cheers

Re: Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
the 10 mm should do it fine, only score once though. On smooth porcelaine you might want to get a 8mm, its narrow width can cut deeper
Use the 18mm one more rivened surfaces

Re: Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
Thanks Dave, have just done one cut, and then split the tile, but if you look along the cut it is a bit ragged (yes it is smooth porcelein).
I have only done testers on some old tiles so far, so now grouted them in so the ragged edge may not show up then, just wasnt sure how good the cut is supposed to be?

Re: Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
If you score once, quickly, you should get a smooth cut. The body of the tiles thickness might look ragged (will be hidden once grouted) but the very top line should be good.
can you take a picture?

Re: Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
Don't apply too much pressure either. In the training centre we found those who managed to score the tile fully with the least pressure had the neatest cut.
On ceramics you'd often not even see the score unless you held it up to the light.
One quick smooth score with enough pressure to simply create a small score that's even and neat should be all you need.

Just for your info .. the TX700 cuts as clean as any other tile cutter, no matter what the make.. It is a movable breaker, so unlike a fixed breaker it can cope with any hard porcs etc..
So back to the original question about a TX700..
Follow the advice above and you will get years from that cutter...

Re: Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
gotta agree with Dave, light pressure is the thing you should just hear a light hiss as you go over the tile, and for smooth porc I always use 6 or 8mm wheels they cut sweeter. my only gripe is that for the last couple of years my ruby wheels only seem to last a month or so of daily use before the pin starts to loosen in the shaft then its just a matter of time before the wheel and pin drop out and I've got my nose to the ground brushing through the dust and debris looking for the dam thing because my spares are in my other cutter at home 70 km away. This once happened within 3 days of purchase, my supplier was going to get the rubi sales rep to contact me last year, I'm still waiting, any one else had experience of this your way or is it just what they are sending us in Holland. Re: Porcelein Scoring wheel for Rubi TX700
I' not a tiler by profession, but do quite a lot, especially with Porcelano.
I only use a wet cutter, so I cheat I guess.
What I do after cutting a tile that will be exposed, I use a flat sharpenning stone for knives and chisels. I dress the edges carefully and remove that minutes roughness.
Once laid and gouted, it's much much better than not doing it.
On Porcelano you can be quite aggresive as long as you stroke away from the upper side.
It may not be in the book, but it works for me
Experience is not years of doing a job, it's mistakes you have made and what you learned.
