Milwalki (spelling ?) bought recently, a good drill driver

hi mark,is the impact drivers more suited for screwing lots of floors...higher speed
for heavy drilling I use a corded 110v bosch GBH, had it for quite a few years now and it's still showing no signs of tiring. For the lighter stuff I use my cordless bosch (not sure of the model) but I've had to replace the bushes twice in 3 years![]()

hitachi are good for the money, but not a patch on the old hitachi
milwauki are excellant bits of kit
I know nothing I havent learnt

With mine I can remove the chuck which then looks like an impact driver

Dewalt for me.. cracking drills and last yrs.

im with Doug on the blue bosch
mine have never let me down and they have had a hard life
I know nothing I havent learnt

Milwaukee C18PD 18V Combi Drill with FREE Impact Driver - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys
mark is this what you have? do you think this deal is good?./ you get a free impact driver

ITS power tools are better for milwaukee tools.

Can I ask which Makita you had, how much you use it and what for?

hiya colour, initially i admit i was using it for mixing small buckets of addy,,that stopped after a battery burnt out after a few months,,,then another battery died and this time the chuck/torque has failed and the drill just completely stopped yesterday....looked into new batteries but they are about 60 pounds each so i thought a new drill would be better,,its an 18v drill it was a deal for 99.99 with 3 batteries and charger i bought it about a year ago

ive found that makita are not the kit they used to be and wont buy it now
I know nothing I havent learnt

I don't think makita are at fault here nearly all the major brands now make a drill in the £100 bracket and none of them stand up as a main drill, regardless of the fact most of them normally have hammer drill settings most are only good for cordless screw drivers on a day to day basis. I have a set of the 'cheaper' makita drills for kitchen fitting (they fit inside 300mm units) and whilst i do chuck them a bit of abuse now and again with mixing bits of addy and plaster they really aren't up to it day to day, so sort of expect a short life span. If I was you and wanted a genersal purpose drill them I would stick my hand in my pocket and go for something with a bit more guts, if not then I would stick to the £100 range and expect to change it every year or 2
I'm now due for some more drills and I think i'll get another set of £100 bracket Makita's and a Metabo for my main drill

do you find the 14 v good enough for screwing large floors etc mark?

I was looking at them in toolmonkey Mark, brilliant bit of kit for the money
while I was in there I asked about their website as I thought it would be good for members on here but they havent updated it and dont do mail order at the moment
shame as I have had some good deals off them
I know nothing I havent learnt

I'v never had any problems with makita, drills both elec and batt, jigsaws, sanders etc.
Mind you my two battery ones are 18v 3.0ah li-ion and are superb.

thanks mark,![]()

careful with the comparisons if you search for the model number you will notice that some are 1.4ah, some 2ah and others 3ah, all very different batteries![]()

Had the same probs Kilty, took it back though as it was the chuck that went. Got the hitachi 18vt and 2 drills and not had a problem with mine. Use it all the time on floors on aqua panel np's. Quick recharge time 1hr(but u get two batts as well) was £140 outta screwfix

i got an erbauer 24v with 2 batteries, good hammer on it too. 2 yr gaurantee. cost me £130 about 18 months ago. still works like new![]()

i have bosch and makita
if you want to screw hardie backer then go for an impact driver and combi drill set, the impact driver is a most usefull piece of kit

Hi Kilty If you can go the extra cost, Festool 12 volt or 15 volt.
I have had a 4" tank cutter on the angle attachment fitted to the 12 volt drill. Its got loads of grunt.

I was using the makita 18v 3.ah li-ion LXT drill today that i bought from Ed !
I was putting up cabinets in a bathroom and ensuite plus toilet roll holders etc.
I used a 6mm masonry bit to bore through the glazed ceramics on normal twist then knocked hammer on to drill into the solid walls, wow !! one hell of a drill with two lights too on the front! very highly specced kit with two batteries and a 22 minute charger.
