    Default Which Trowel?

    Hi guys

Being new to tiling, I was wondering which size trowel to get for floor tiles. I know that there are different tile sizes, but which size trowel would you use for most of your floor tiling jobs. I was told a 10x10 notched trowel at my course, but noticed that there is a 12x12 notched one too. Is the 12x12 trowel for over sized tiles or heavier tiles?

    your advise would be welcomed.

    Tony

I was taught 10 x10 as well but I don't think that this is the "defacto standard". It really depends what you are laying I suppose. getting a solid bed is probably the most important thing, whatever size notch you use.

Sound a bit pervy that doesn't it!!!!

A solid bed trowel is one where the notches are wider than they are deep so when the adhesive bed is spread and the tiles are pressed into it the adhesives spreads into a solid bed..... these trowels are usually U shaped ones.....hope that helps............dave...

Thanks guy's for your prompt replies. Dave you mentioned the u-shaped trowel, should a square notched trowel not used for floor tiles?

It can be used but you wont get 100% coverage......round or V notched are traditionally your solid bed trowels...have a look here for some examples of different makes and designs etc........dave..
