Am looking to purchase a tile cutter very shortly as am about to start out my tiliing career. does anyone have any suggestions? rubi ts?..
the rubi boys will say rubi, the guys with sigma will say sigma......it's a case of try it and see what action suits you best, either push or pull. My preference is rubi![]()

Yeah whitebeam see your point but i dont know what kind of jobs i have coming up or what sort of tiles i will use. and my budget want be that good so i need to make sure my first one is a good one.
If u choose a sigma or a rubi , I guarrentee that you wont swap brands down the track, you will get so used to which ever you choose.
Both brands are very good, plenty of spare parts and could easy last your whole tiling career.
I would get one that can cut 750 ish on the straight.

I would be looking at a 500-600 cutter to start, tile sizes are increasing.
Theres this as well [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-PePIKNuF4]YouTube - Manual tile cutter montolit - P - "Push model"[/ame]

Rubi is a nice cutter with neat little gagets the thing I did not like about it was the depth gague for the rail only ajust one side.I have found sigma to be my cutter of choice I own a 51,75,and 95 all excellent cutters only pain is you have to lube and clean the rail no pun intented what ever cutter you get keep a good wheel on it
like the guys say i think you have to road test one (like you would with a new car), i love Rubi cos i can see the cutter wheel and line up with marks at the front and rear of a tile, i cant see the wheel on a sigma. But to me it looks like the Sigma is better made and is a much better price for what you get especially for the high brake pressure models. Maybe go to a friendly tile shop with a few scrap tiles and ask to borrow the cutter they use for making their displays - might have to visit a couple of shops before you get your hands on both types, but if they think they might sell you a cutter in the future i bet they will be helpful (Ive found the guys at Tile Giant, Tile Style, Topps etc ok in any case). So go and play![]()
Everyone says rubi, but i'm never blown away by them. My brother in law has a montolit, I hate it, just can't get along with it. Need to use a mallet for breaking porc nicely.
I've got a kaufman topline and I absolutely love it. First time my bro in law used it was on porc, broke perfect first time with fingertip effort. His only words were "wow!" followed by a sigh
I like the Sigma cutter. For me it suits me and gives a perfect cut each time, or maybe it is me who makes it cut perfectly![]()

I like the sigma myself though how do you find when cutting say a 600x600 the side support wont take the weight on its own,so for example your supporting the tile with one hand, cutting with the other and you need maximum pressure on the score.I find it awkard on the pull, how do you find it?

Maybe, but it Just seems really hard to break porc, i've put almost all my weight on it before now without it breaking, other times it crushes the tile or the break line wanders.
The topline on the other hand hardly requires any pressure. Tried then both side by side, same job, same tiles. It Can cut a 600 x 20mm strip no problem.
