    Default Wet cutting porcelain

    Hi,
I borrowed my father in laws wet cutter tonight to try it out on an offcut of porcelain floor tile I'll be laying (I've only ever cut through ceramic before, which was easy). It didn't have a make or model on it and looked a bit cheap, and seemed to really struggle getting through it - took me about 3 minutes just to get through 2 inches, and then about 10mm from end it broke off
I had been considering purchasing something like a Norton Clipper, but didn't want to shell out £120 if it didn't improve upon father in laws machine. I guess my question is: is this kind of struggle normal when wet cutting porcelain, or do you think it's down to a poor machine and/or blade?
    Cheers
    Jimbob

Could be a cheapo under powered machine with the wrong disk?

Did you have water in it?

I know that my rubi 200 lp, with a fresh cpc blade, flies through porc. Obviously when the blade gets tired and worn it struggles, which says it's the blade that lets the machine down, not vice versa, however I tried a tip off Dave this week, and ran my blade into a block of sandstone, what a transformation! it really did reveal hidden diamonds and my blade is cutting like a new one

Is it only for 'L' shape cuts that you use a wet saw - any hand cutter is good for Porcelain!

I've used a marcrist on another machine and it tended to fine chip glaze, really tore through the porc tho', but finished cut was nowhere near as neat as rubi cpc blade imo

    Cheers everyone.
To answer a couple of questions: yes, it did have plenty of water in it. And yes, it will mainly be for L cuts. I have a second hand TX700 for the straight cuts, which deals with the tiles no problem
I guess I'll sling it back to the father in law and invest in a decent wet cutter. (I was half hoping it would struggle with them to be honest - made sure the wife was watching so I had a good excuse for another tool purchase!)

BTW, good tip about the sandstone
