Default Cutting tool for Backerboard - Nightmare

    Hi,

Been repairing an ensuite today, taken off first few rows of tiles and screwing backerboard to the metal stud.
Anyway, guy at Topps said about the tool for cutting Hardibacker is good, so I bought it and had a bloody nightmare.Worst day ever in my tiling life. It says score a line, then again then snap, its 16mm thick and it takes some strength. Done the first one, scored it about twenty times and still wouldnt budge, put me knee on it and guess what, yeah it went round the shape of me knee...didnt know wether to laugh or cry...tried throwing out of window, darn thing was too big...ha ha...used a jigsaw but didnt do much, in the end I used a saw.
Whats the best tool guys for cutting, fair play to the bloke at Topps, he said it might have been dodgy, help yourself to another....
    Vin

I use a concrete saw, works well and keeps the dust to a minimum

THe hardi tool can work but is hard graft as you say....and no good on hardi 500....

So i use a grinder out side and if in side i have used my Rotozip...which flys through hardi with the ceramic bit in....but a grinder is even faster but dusty...

Yes I had the same problem. Thing is if you cut it with a saw you might want to read the heath and safety first as it is not very nice stuff.

Jigsaw with a tile blade works well.........smells of fireworks

Other than that.....a cheap disposable saw will work.........but it does wreck them
