If the walls are flat then an 8mm or 10mm will be fine...once the tile is pressed into place will give around a 3mm bed..

and use bagged adhesive, SPF if its platerboard etc

8mm -10mm for me and bagged addy

Usually 8 or 10mm square notch for me !
And cement based adhesive only !
