Default Something useful for profiling around Sanitary ware ?

Folks don't know if anyone has ever used one of these but I found my old one from school ( used in Technical Drawing the old fashioned way lol) called a flexi - curve, useful for hyperbolic paraboloid roof shells if i remember correctly, well as I couldn't remove the toilet I had to tile around and not having a profile guage I remembered this little gadget still lurking about so gave it a go and great result.

I've seen solder, paper, cardboard etc being used , but heres just an idea that I found useful and cheap as chips.

I keep a roll of linning paper in the van, roll some out put the tile on top and cut round that and use that as a guage against any curved objects

Thanks Polished, great idea!!! I think my daughter even has one I can nick I pop into the flooring shop now and then and collect off cuts of Lino. This is perfect for scribing around the toilet with and making a cutout to work to. Will try your new method also, thanks heaps

Frogot to add.... best way to use the lino is to cut to the same size as the tiles you are working with (lay one on top and cut round with knife). once you have tiled all the floor (excluding the tiles around the toliet) you lay the pre made lino tiles out and cut them to fit exactly. once they all fit perfect take them and trace onto your tile for cutting. works perfect every time.

Definitely on ebay, I think they also use them for profiling horse saddles, Stationary shops should have them as well I think that's where I got my one all those many moons ago.

Get them from staionairy shops, bendy rulers.
Most have them, mainly used for plotting charts etc etc.

lol yes only thing I seem to remember from my days doing technical drawing. And how the flexicurve was the business for drawing up the curves of the roof shell once you had plotted it out.

Search for flexible curve in ebay, there are ones cheaper and a different range of sizes. Regarding Major & Minor, from what I can remember ( please don't hold me to this as it has been a long time since secondary school days) they relate to the Major and Minor elliptical axis, the major ones (curves) tend to be stifer and longer while the minor tend to be more flexible and shorter (allowing for drawing tighter more precise curves). It's all down to the lead core and the 2 steel inserts within the plastic.
And be gentle with them the lead core can break and are not to be used for whipping some poor apprentice :-)

Yep, Lino all the way for me. I always have 5 or 6 bits in the van ready for the next job (in fact got one this week). Just make sure you keep them flat otherwise they can be a bugger to work with.
