Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
Evening all was wandering which you guys n gals prefer to do, either the quick n easy route of a wetcutter or the more challenging route with a pair of rubi nippers? I love a good challenge from time to time. Itd be nice to hear your thoughts, on what i think is a dying art the abilbilty to tile with no powertools, just you and your rubi

Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
I can do both........not always is power available.........but a wet cutter just makes things quicker and neater......

Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
sign of a real tiler, but yeh i wouldnt be without my cordless grinder... worth its weight in gold
-
-
Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
I do a combination of both. Sometimes it's quicker to nip, other times it's neater and faster to wet cut, just depends on circumstances.

Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
Wet cutters when the power is there, Site work can be a pain for power unless your've got your own genny. Nibblers as a last resort or just to bone idle to walk to the cutter

I've often wondered about the jig saw method, I thought the base of the saw would make marks on the tile ??? .....how does it work out doug ?

Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
superb, jig saw has a detachable placcy footplate that stops it marking tiles
no good on porc or floor tiles tho'!

Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
I'm really good with nippers, but I prefer wet saws. Angle grinders are nice as a complement, but they're too dusty for my tastes.

Re: Wetcut/Grinder Vs Nippers
On a job yesterday, ceramic splashback. Finished and started grouting when the site manager asked me to re-fix a floor tile in a boiler room floor that they lifted to find a wire.
Rather than set up the wet cutter again i got the helper to use the breaker to cut to size (12 mm porcelain) the it needed a pipe nipping out of the corner. Well, i tried twice with the nippers, boy it was tough, broke one and gave up on the second. He got the wet cutter out and done in 2 secs.
Ceramics are a doddle to nip in comparison though
