    Default What angle grinder?

Had some problems with my wet cutter the other day and this left me pretty stuffed, I want to invest in an angle grinder and would apreciate some feedback on makes, models and ones to avoid! Budget would probably be about £75ish,

Most angle grinders seem to feel about the same, from what I've seen. Personally I use an Hitachi - but never used it in the tiling sense. I have a small one and a large one, they are exactly the same as my local tool hire company use - and they can't recommend them highly enough. I figure if they are tough enough for the hire market - then they will be fine for me. My tool company only hire's the best - not rubbish.

    Hi cjbombero,

What type and make/model of wet cutter do you have and what problems are you experiencing?

I understand the immediate benefits and attraction of using a grinder with a suitable blade.

However I still believe the accuracy and cut finish acheived with a good wet cutter is worth the extra set-up time, even more so on harder and more expensive materials.

There is an obvious need for a serious re-think about the design of all types of wet tile saws (table top, sliding cart and rail/bridge) and I was hoping to better understand your current frustrations?

    Thanks,

    Roy.

I'll be the odd man out. I use Metabo angle grinders the one designed for tilers in mind it has a narrow barrel that make it a comfy fit in the hand. NO CRAMPING!!!

I think you will find the blue Bosch model has the narrower barrel to Mick. In fact i bought my Bosch while i was in Australia from Bunnings. The only trouble is that it takes a 100mm wheel and the spindle is a different size from normal. That makes wheels hard to come by.

Thumbs up Re: What angle grinder?

Thanks for all the replys, i've now got a good list to go and have a look at tommorrow! I was planning on getting a angle grinder in addition to my wet cutter (a cheapo plasplugs contractor) as the poor little fella was struggling on the 600 x 600 porcaline tiles I was cuting on monday. A few tilers I know on site us the battery makita cutters that have a little water bottle, there about £200 which seems like a lot in comparison to an angle grinder. Any thoughts on them?

Any grinder is better than no grinder.
    Get a couple.
    Different sizes.
All of mine are Makita, (4", 2- 5" and a 7") but the others are good too.
My new Makita just quit the other day.
I am hoping it is just the switch.

My metabo 115mm packed in a couple of weeks ago after 3 years i can't complain. had to run to the nearest tool shop, had one makita 115mm 110v and some bugger must have pulled the switch off so that was that,so bought a bosch 115mm 110v(blue),great grinder, real comfy too.

i spend so long looking at wet cutters, and it seems like you need so many different types, its just spend spend spend. i feel like i waste loads of money on tools.
but i defo dont regret spending 45 quid on a dewalt grinder. i use it with a norton aereojet disc and its so dam good. i find u waste so much time on jobs getting out and setting up the wet cutter, and most days i only do a few cuts with discs. i also hate the fact u cant see clearly with a wet cutter.
the only niggle i have with grinders is that they create loads of dust. but i find the best thing to do it cut over a large groudsheet and near two walls and put two large boards up against the wall to catch the dust. but if its just a few cuts then i do it just over a groundsheet.
i also like to play it safe and clamp the tile to a chopping board/old ply using a 5 quid b&poo clamp. that way i can hold the grinder with both hands and cut very accurantely
