Got one as I do alot of splash-backs in tower blocks, but the battery don't last long, so now I use a small grinder with a marcrist blade and cut on the balconys........................

I bought one thinking it would be the cat's ass for little jobs and backsplash's and it is nice but not as handy as I thought
Little pieces that have to be cut are hard to deal with as the bottom plate makes it difficult to control the tile as it is being cut.
For bigger tile it works well though.
I also use a big plastic tub to catch the spray and chips.
lithium batteries would be a good addition and they may be making them sometime in 2009 from what the Makita rep says.

I flogged mine on e Bay. It definately needs more power! i think it would be better with 18V lithium batteries IMO

Got mine on a deal cordless /hammerdrill driver with 3 batterys and the wet cutter £175 the lot, Do agree the batts drain so quick

all i can say is after having my old gaffers one for a week cus he thought it was crap...i thought it was crap as well it stayed in the van...still in there somewhere i think lol

Use it all the time saves having to set up big cutter for 4 or 5 cuts. Never have any problem cutting Porc, ceramic, slate, trav even cut glass with no problems. True the battery is not the greatest and spare ones are not cheap but I normally have the charger sittin out and just stick it on charge after a few cuts.

To me worth every penny great for kitchen splash backs great for plunge cuts for toilet wastes etc Great for site work where power is an issue mind you this is when two batteries would be worth while.


What I think is lot of guys buy it and expect it to work like a grinder it is not a grinder it cuts at its own pace laid back like us Highlanders

its a great bit of kit for jobs where u only need to do a few cuts and you have limited space or u have a long walk to the van. ive cut riven pork with mine no probs

First thread in the forum.
I do a lot of tiling and would never make a living at it. I do have good tools and the Makita 4191D which is the 12V version (not 9.6).
It wa sfor sale in the UK at silly money, then batteries and charger were on top.
I bought one on the US ebay with battery (had the charger) and a spar battery alreay.
I reckon it's a brilliant tool to have. Power isn't an issue with when you have two.
It's a slow rev/min and not what you normally term a power tool.
I paid equiv to approx £45 with battery, brand new and yes, a good deal.
Been great one of my best buys.
The blade is still going strong and still looking for a spare, so hope it lasts even longer.
It really needs the water constantly and it is a pain to keep filling.

Those blades look good. The standard blade with the tool is actually a tooth bladed edge which blew my mind when I saw it, but it really works good at 900rpm. It needs the ater though.

Got mine for my last job,next day delivery (pics of result in my gallery) worked a treat for what I needed, set the depth and no cut UFH cables! This was the least expensive I could find on the net as I was charging customer for it in the job. Don't know if a mistake was made in packing but I also recieved 2 batteries and a lovely 10 m tape measure. 2 batteries just as well as it takes 60 mins to charge and lasts an hour. Does chugg along at it's own pace but gives really accurate, fine cuts especially used with a straight edge.

Totally agree, when needed it does the job.
The more tools you have, the easier things are. You need a 5kg hammer and a pin hammer, but can't use one for both!

That little saw cuts lovely clean straight lines on those awkaward jobs.
Not a tool for anything esle.

well i wouldnt be without mine. great for site work when you havnt got 2 miles of extention cable. use mine on floor tiles too without any probs. i use a bucket with 2 30cm lengths of door stop across it to lay tile on when useing small tiles

I have the 12v version find it handy for plunge cuts when I have to cut holes for sockets mid tile not as loud & messy as an angle grinder, have a 12v Makita drill which uses the same battery so I have 4 batteries all in which is handy would be a pain if you did not have a spare.

The Makita 4191D...was a great buy for me. Cost $80 over a year ago when the pound was strong. Happy days ended but really pleased with the tool. As with all tools, it has it's jobs and cannot do a multitude of tasks.
Yes the battery life is not good, but the amount it is used and needed, I never found it an issue of concern.
Great for perfect cuts to be mitred and neat cut-outs etc.
Glad the tool is there ready to go, not sure it's worth more than a a 100 quid though.

But with two small ones, one is on charge anyway.
I like to use it when needed, not sure I would like using it all day, not really an all day tool IMHO
