Regular nippers work just fine on porcelain if you use the correct technique. You're supposed to just grip the tile lightly with the nippers, and then break away small pieces with a flick of the wrist. Far more accurate than the scissoring action I've seen many use, and it carries less risk of damaging the tile. Cleaner break as well.

If you need to break away a thinner piece than your cutter can handle, just score the tile with the cutter and use the nipper wrist-action I described. With a little practise, you can break away really long, thin pieces in just one movement which takes only seconds.

I almost only use scissor action nippers on mosaics.

It's easy to damage the tile with the scissor action nippers. The do have uses, but that nieche is quite slim. General purpose nippers are almost always better. And the finish with certainly be neater.

I tend to prefer nippers with an offset jaw. They allow for more control in my opinion.
