take the bloody toilet out and basin!!!! he he ....i usually do it by eye and tape measure same as dan!!!!!,my mate uses paper too....,i have old pieces of waste pipe and soil pipe to mark round for toilets and sinks..works well
Basin, pan & shower always come out. Won't do the job otherwise. Have tried the 'cutting round the sink' work in the early days, and it doesn't float my boat. And 9 times out of 10, the finish is crap & adds unecessary time to the job.

:)

Decorators lining paper one roll lasts ages best by far for toilets if you have to leave in situe. get yourself some off cuts of old waste pipesand use them as templates.

Every one reckons they are no good because once you have got your shape you don't have any indication of where to place the gauge on the tile (and rightly so) but this from Rubi may solve that problem.

1st option get the pan and sink out, best finish but more expensive as plumber involved, tried a profile about 15 years ago to see if it would make life easier, it didnt, never lined up, and not a perfect cut as pins kept moving about when trying to mark the tile, the answer is to scribe to the pan perfect results every time, and fast when you get used to it, couldnt be bothered with the paper and cardboard messin about when covered in adhesive and the added fact of carrying about cardboard and paper for everytime you need to scribe round soomething to much hassle

Hi , THe best way is to take the pan and sink out - makes a far better job. I come from a Karndean/Amtico background, where the shop had to go round fittings - I used to carry a roll of 2.5mm Twin and Earth Electrical Cable round with me. Its easy to bend round curves and holds the shapes with speed & very little mess.

It pretty good - takes a bit of practice to get used - It all depends on time you have to devote to the cut - I was always taught the correct way is to scribe, like previously mentioned. But when you your sent on job that should be a day and half and they give you a day to complete it, as you know - you adapt your own methods - I'm sure you know how it is......
----
I thought I'd mention - If the complete wire was too bulky - I'd just strip out one of the cores and use that.

always open to new suggestions, im still learning after all this time, need to try the wire method but still needs you to have wire on hand, not into buying wire just to scribe a pan with, honest practise with scribing can be done in no time, its how your doin it.
