Hi, how much experience would you need to go for an nvq in tiling then, ive heard they can esses you on domestic jobs, is this true

I think it's something like 5 years experiance, and as far as I know they don't ask for proof of this either.

I guess they will have a good idea of your experiance through the assesment.

The minimum requirement for an NVQ2 in Tiling through OSAT is 3 years.

It normally takes 12 weeks to complete, unless more site visits are required to gather more performance evidence to satisfy the performance criteria. You have 2 years to complete it.

If you have taken part in some form of accredited training, such as a Level 1 NOCN or ASET, then 12 weeks is a very realistic target to get your NVQ2 done, maybe sooner.

However, if you have acheived an ICA, then you can get your NVQ2 in 20 weeks from the day you finished the course, maybe sooner. THIS IS BY FAR THE QUICKEST WAY FOR A PERSON TO GET THEIR NVQ2, WHO HAS NO OR LITTLE EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE.

All references and CV's are checked, so make sure your career history matches what you say you have in experience. If the assessor doesn't check this, then the IV will check. If he doesn't, then the EV will check. 99% of the time though, the Assessor will check, so not to drop a clanger by being caught out.

Yes this is true, im a tiling assesor and it all depends on how much experience you have.

on the nvq it says surface prep is part of it, does it just mean levelling floors with slc or does it mean plastering etc.
what does it actually want.
any one actually have a proper description of what is wanted in each segment.

did my nvq level 2 at sheffield college in 2001 was on a 32 week full time course at the time dont know if things have changed since then remember big bubbly assesor came out onto site to assess jobs and said u r a very mucky tiler loli said am still learning

Surface prep means either remedial plaster work, screeding, SLC, reboarding, patch and repair etc.

Basically making the surface good - wall or floor - ready to accept tiles.

If you go onto the Skills For Business site and browse 'National Occupational Standards', it will describe to you each unit of the NVQ2 in tiling (as well as all other NVQ quals if you wish!!), so that you know what standard you need to be at for the award.
