Hi there A1,
If this is the first time you have done any construction work, then you are looking at 3 years after your course, before you can register and complete your NVQ2. Then you can also get your blue
CSCS card (you will get a red one whilst completing the
NVQ). You will fall into a 'category D student' which means you have done some form of accredited training, but will need 3 years experience to prior to complete the award.
The OCN award is perfect for domestic situations, and no more. Thats why some people choose to do this, as they are not interested in site & contract work.
However, if you you want to get straight on site (as well as domestic) and do your NVQ2 also, then the ICA is the one. You finish the course, register for your NVQ2 immediately, collect your
CSCS card and your away. You then have 2 years to complete the award, but a combined ICA & NVQ2 can be done
in as little as 26 weeks, with only 6 weeks of that in full time training. The NVQ2 is all pure experience as the ICA covers all the
accredited prior learning that you need to satisfy the
NVQ criteria.
Good luck
