| Covering the plastering crack again... | | I was just wondering how many people also provide plastering as a service.
I know it takes a long time to become very good at the trade, however, are there any courses in the North East I could complete to take my business to the next level in a year or so ?
It seems silly at 24 not to do it, doesnt it ?

| Re: Covering the plastering crack again... | | I am a plasterer by trade and being able to do both skill can gain you a lot of work, less hastle for the customer to go and find a plasterer and other trades and less hastle for you as you don't have to tie up with other trades so you know where you are. o and forgot to mention the xtra MONEY |

| Re: Covering the plastering crack again... | | Sounds like a good idea.
If you can get the walls flat it makes your life easy. And useful to have both skills.
Saves having to wait for other people to come and do it and you get to keep the money too !
I tried to do it but its a real skill.

| Re: Covering the plastering crack again... | | Well at the moment i'm working with a plumber whilst setting up my business, generally fitting bathrooms, showers dishwashers etc and I can't decide what would be more lucrative, learning from him and taking on full bathroom fit outs or the plastering.
What sort of rates do plasterers get ?

| Re: Covering the plastering crack again... | | Hi Boosha,
I am a plasterer by trade and deciced to learn tiling about a year ago.
The two trades go together brilliantly and I will normally get more work from a customer if for instance im tiling and then they ask for a price for plastering in another room.
I would charge around the Ģ350-Ģ400 to skim out a standard sized room (13'x13')
thats walls and ceiling.
Plastering is now mainly skimming work because people tend to dot and dab or dryline new builds nowadays, I cant remember the last time I sand and cement rendered a room before skimming out.
I would definetely go for it , if you want to learn plastering and I think you will get a fair bit of work from it. Takes quite a bit of time and practice to become good at it, and takes even longer to become fast at it, but start with some small jobs.
Only trouble with plastering is that plasterers (not necasarily good ones) are everywhere, but I guess thats the same with most trades.

Over 90% of my clients do it. Their advantage is that they do the plaster with an eveness they need esp. when having big size tiles. Plasteres have to obey other standards which sometimes donīt match the needs (e.g. eveness) the tiler wants.
