Good for you, but one minute per cut is still a long time. If the cuts are going to be in the middle of a field/pattern, then sure, by all means use a wet cutter. If they're in corners though, wet cutting is just overkill. I easily cut 10 mm slivers from 330x330x10 porcellanato tiles with my manual tile cutter, and that takes just a few seconds, as opposed to a minute.

On the other hand, if you're happy with using the saw, I'm not going to badger you any more about it

Hadn't read this thread before I bought my tile saw. Same one - Plasplugs Master Tiler DWW180, half price in B & Q (so its good for some things!)

I've just started laying Porcellanato tiles (500mm x 330mm x 9mm). I've been cutting through them with the supplied blade in about a minute - going slowly cos I'm new at this.

Sounds like either the motor was shagged or the blade wasn't clamped tight enough. I've had to top up the water tank every couple of cuts though, as the water pours off the large tiles onto the ground instead of back into the trough as it should with small tiles.

The big tiles are too large to use the cutter guide when cutting half sizes and I had to cut with the guard up. It left my wife in hysterics as I got soaked....

hi mate,

a few weeks ago i was on a job with another tiler and we both use Nuova Battipav cutters. the tiles were fully vitrified porcelin and it snapped them fine. especially as the breaker is attached to the cutting arm so u can apply pressure anywhere on the scribe. one of these would be cheaper than an overhead radial cutter.

you can find these for sale at essex tiling training. which is where i bought mine.

We cut loads of porcelain tiles for use in our demos etc and own a NUTOOL which is now a bit old and knackered


Cost new was about £140 quid but to be honest its not the machine its the BLADE that is important.

Heres me with the actual machine. As you can see its battered but the blade is good quality.


We use this one to prepare tiles for shop display boards. Only thing I would say is that it is a git to move. Takes two people to lift and the legs dont help either. Its bulky and when filled with water is messy as well as heavy.

Also wear the cans on your ears! - We have two pairs of ear defenders because its horrible to listen to after about ohhhh ten seconds.



Paul - my tiler - recons my NUTOOL is a waste of time and insists on using this one but he fitted it with a high quality diamond blade. Oh and he refuses to wear safety goggles and ear defenders.... Hmmm.

We can rip through a 600mm tile in about a minute as a rule of thumb on both machines.
