You say you've always got a job that you've priced, maybe because you're so cheap?
The more I read the replies from other tilers, the more I think the price was about right. I've had no phone call fro the customer so I suppose he has gone for someone cheaper. |
Hi nw
AS you think i am so cheap let me tell you this.
Fact1:11m2 is a one day job for any tiler worth his salt.
Fact2:if it takes you 1/2 a day to grout up 11m2 your in the wrong job
Fact3:If my prices are so cheap how come i put close on £80,000 through my books last year
Fact4:half the people labeled on this forum as professional tiler's have only just done a p*** poor nvq course that i would not hire anyone who had one to do any work for me.
Fact5:If you do not want honest opinions do not post on an open forum.
Fact6:If you know what your doing (if)then you would know how to price a job correctly and not listen to people who spend all day everyday on this forum ,because they are pricing themselves out of work.
Final point ,as you want to pick faults in my pricing ,at no stage in my tiling have i asked for advice on pricing ,and i'll bet you a pound to a penny that i have forgot more than most people know.

| Re: Am I overpricing? | | I see from you profile mz30 that you have been tiling for 18 years. Could you give us an idea of how long it took you to get up to speed to be able to tile 11m2 in a day?
Thanks. |

Of course you can grumpygrouter,it probably took me about 1 yr out of my time to hit that target,no offence meant but lads i have employed in the past and lads i know can hit that target by lunchtime and grout it on a refurb, for £400 a week .i'll go back to last year, i was doing a hospital in barrow in furness an believe it or not me and my apprentice tiled 34m2 in an hour and a half (straight walls and a doorway)
I will always say if anyone doubts me come and see me work (i will organise through pm)

| Re: Am I overpricing? | | Thanks mz30 wasn't doubting what you say. Just that I have been in the trade now for just coming up a year and there is no way I can tile that quickly yet. There always seems to be one obsticle or another to have to straighten out, cut around or the need to back butter tiles. I don't do site work nor contracts/builders work so everything is pretty much old walls.
I do work alone so don't have the benefit of a "boy" to mix, clean or generally assist so maybe that is why it takes so long. I suspect most of the guys/gals on the forum work the same way as me. |

#34 | | Guest | Re: Am I overpricing? | | to be fair to mz30,
i have seen his work and the amount he did in a very short amount of time only last friday and he can back up what he writes. hes a very knowledgable guy who has covered all aspects of tiling inc stone work for a very well known company in liverpool.
if anyone could hit 80k a year then i would put my money on him to achieve it, afterall 18 years of tiling for all the major companies around the northwest must count for something!
anyway, just realised thats my 300th post so its a good time to bow out incase i start to become synical.
all the best

#35 | | Tilers Forums Admin | Re: Am I overpricing? | | Anybody viewing this thread do not get confused with the speed of commercial
tiling with domestic tiling...they are two separate issues and are addressed in
different ways..........commercial tiling you can put loads of mtrs on in a shift no
probs..i have done it , didn't like it coz the pressure is always there...but in the
domestic market it is different altogether.....smaller rooms more obstacles to over
come and more than likely prep work as well...
The tiling in the domestic market is not all about how much you can put up in a
day , it is turning out a well presented professional job and getting recommends..
The commercial game is all about time scales and making money.........
just my little input............ .....
