Plywood on a bathroom wall/shower

Just put up a studded timber wall in a bathroom to install a shower in and instead using plasterboard I've got some 9mm exterior ply to use....

Good idea or not?

Will it be ok if it's primed and flexi adhesive used?

Had a problem with ply on a job , something to do with the resin's in the wood. Personaly I would use plasterboard then tank it with Bal wp1, IMO

why not a good idea/?

water and plywood dont go together it can swell
so for the same price give or take a few quid why why bother with ply
backer boards easyer to use anyway

agree with pjtiler

wood swels when mixed with water and can cause the tiles to pop and damage your shower or bath etc

hardie backer boards or plaster board is much better

u can use it but u will need to use ultramastic from mapei or something similar i work for a few builders and they always use ply for some reason

So regular plasterboard is better?

Doesn't that get mushy when wet?

I've seen aqua panel in B&Q but it's £15 for a 4"x2" sheet!!!

Lukeo, It really all depends how many people are going to use the shower, If it's a single person the shower won't be used that much so plasterboard may be a prefrence but if the whole family are using it I would consider tanking because of the amount of usage it will get

So where exactly do you buy this tile backerboard, moisture resistant stuff?

Wickes don't seem to have any, neither to topss tiles. B&Q have aquapanel but it's £15 for 1200x600 sheets! That'd cost a fortune.
