afternoon peeps, got to seal my trav floor, bought impregnator but now not sure if it's the right thing to use. reading another thread, chap said his had turned out patchy, and i've a feeling mine will be too, due to some tiles being a bit shiney, and others matt. would i be better using the sealer that doesn't soak in? (sorry, not sure what it's called) thanks, Trebor

Hi,

You need an impregnator sealer for travertine. Follow the directions on the sealer and make sure you work it in well after the dwell time prior to wiping the excess off. I always find a paint pad works best to apply impregnator and gives good control and stops the sealer from pooling.

The other sealer you are thinking about is called Topical sealer and thats the one that stays on the surface.

Also make sure the travertine is clean and DRY before sealing.....

Which inpregnator have you bought........?

sorry for not saying thanks before now, been at work till 10!!! it's fila travertine and tumbled marble sealer. any good?

Not a brand i,m familar with but as long as its suitable for the stone then no probs........

trebor it was my trav floor that turned out patchy and it was fila used on it, im not gonna say its a bad product but try getting proper instructions for using it, i was supplied with fila stone plus which is a multi-purpose sealer not spec for tav which added to my problem, i've since been told that the fila stone plus is a silicone based product which differs alot from the water based ones.

its worth a couple of hrs research, it took us2 days to sort ours out, good luck.

thanks for that guys. i'm really pleased to hear you finally got yours sorted Eamonn, was gutted for you when i read your post. all that work then potentially ruined on the last leg. will defo research before applying, thanks

If you use Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold you should have no problems. It is water based and has no smell. Ultrs Solve is a better choice if the surface is polished.

I realise others on here are not so familiar with Aqua Mix Sealers but the main advantages are: They are water based, easy to apply and give off virtually no odours. The disadvantage is they are not cheap. However, with the everyone being concerned with the enviroment they are IMO a step in the right direction and a lot more friendly to the person applying.

try using HG impregnator m8 and as Dave says clean them from dust prior to sealing.

AQUA MIX for me aswell Kev - PITT brainwashing for you! Not really, it is a top class sealer. If you want to bring out the colours in the travertine, then Aquamix's 'Enrich n Seal' will do the job. Again, make sure that you read the instructions carefully.
