Anyone a member of anything out there that they can recommend as being beneficial?

Not really, unless being able to have a certain logo on your van floats your boat.

There is a member on here that has said being a member of BNI "group networking, like the Stone Masons with local chapters\group meetings" has proved well for him in getting work, but other than that I have not read anyone saying really that any association has been beneficial.

not a member of anything myself, but I do know customers like to see that kind of thing on vans or paperwork, it gives them a sense of security..other than that you get sweet f.a out of them...Mark.

My solicitor said that there is a local business charter (possibly the round table), that I should get involved with. She reckoned that it has proved a great form of networking for local businesses, but I haven't bothered finding any more about it as I seem to be okay at the mo (touching wood!).

I've never been asked by a customer whether I am a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen or owt else. If they are worried about me or the quality of my work, I put them in touch with previous customers who have said that they are always happy to provide a reference etc..

They mean absolutely nothing,my mate(plasterer)is a member of the Guild of master craftsman and its got him no extra work plus the references they ask for can be written by anyone.
I think it was the Assosciation of Master Builders that was on Watchdog last month with lots of complaints from customers showing loads of shoddy work that its members have done..A logo on your van doesn't say anything for your quality of work in my opinion.
