Default How to price up small tiles on a m2 basis

Hi all .firstly this site is the best. After doing my course in swindon i am now slowly taking the steps to moving into a career in tiling after now setting up the business.I have a couple of questions

(1) I have my first job to quote which is going to be a bathroom job.the tiles which the customer has are 75mm ceramic tiles. Now i have to tile the entire bathroom wall and only half way up on the other 3.the question is as these tiles are smaller than the ones i used on my course (150x150mm)i am therefore going to be longer in labour per square mtr as trhere are more to fit.In this case will my sqr mtr price go up or would i start to look at my day rate charge + materials

(2) the ex boyfriend has chiselled the old tiles off and left the walls in a bit of mess.what is deemed as untilable or what can you get away with with methods explained

thanks so much in advance.

Hi Lendini, yes it will take you longer, probably longer than you anticipate as you are basically fixing a large mosaic. Add to this the extra grout lines to keepclean/clean and additional time for grouting, it all adds up.

Best thing to do is price the job twice, 1 on day rate and the other on metre rate and see which works out best for you.

You are wise to try and prep the walls to get them as flat as you can. makes life much easier for fixing the tiles! Acceptable irregularity in British Standards is 3mm gap under a 2mtr straight edge. Any more than that and it is deemed as needing work!

You didn't say how big the job was so it is a bit hard to indicate how long it may take.
