Default Plumbing your own jobs

After getting prices from some local plumbers in my area (extortionate) and not being called back with prices etc etc i've decided to do a short intensive plumbing course and plumb my own jobs where possible

Would you consider this wise?

I understand about regulations for electrics/corgi etc but these 2 jobs do not require these, both like for like etc

Cheers

It can only be a bonus mate, and it's something I am going to be doing myself sometime this year.

Any good 2 week plumbing course will give you what you need to fit bathrooms and any general wet plumbing that you may require, and can only earn you money from then on being able to not have to call out plumbers yourself.

2 bites of the cherry mate

Just remember to add plumbing to your liability insurance.

Wholeheartedly agree with you there mate
I cannot understand the attitude of some plumbers

Do it yourself and you know you've done a good job

I have done 2 bathrooms myself in properties i've lived in and had no problems

I've been messed around by my local plumbers both in price and in not turning up to quote for a job when they've promised - this makes me look bad so i looked at the job myself and decided i could do it with a little help from a refresher course

If i fall flat on my face then so be it but i'll have learned from it.

ok, I will rephrase what I said, standard bathrooms.

It's like anything else, don't jump out of your depth straight away.

I know a couple of people who have done a 2 week plumbing course and have made a good living out of bathroom fitting and general wet plumbing.

i too want to extend my skills into plumbing. However i only want to be able to make my life easier by being able to remove and re fit toilets, sinks etc. Not wanting to re fit bathrooms or anything. Walk before i can run n all that but one day!

I know that it is easy to just get covered with public liability against water damage (every insurer wants our money) but what I would like to know is:

Has any one covered themself and had to make a claim on it?

Did the insurer paid or tried to wigled out because you are not a plumber.

Maybe we need a poll on this.

I guess it all comes down to what questions the insurance company ask you at the time of quoting for your policy, wether they ask you if you are qualified plumber nvq, experiance in the trade or whatever.
