Cool greetings from sunny tenerife, i need some advice

greetings to all from sunny tenerife. i am starting a job tiling a 50m2 sun terrace soon. the clients builder has laid the base for me to tile ,the problem is in one corner he laid a level area area of 2.5m2 ready for a hot tub to sit on. he has then ran a severe slope on two sides for any water spillage to drain away from the building. i knoe i could run tiles at the corner at 45degree cuts but the client woht have this if i lay them square they dont sit right .does anybody have any suggestions.

It sounds to me as if you have a major problem before you start. I would question if the clients builder knows what he is doing. A fall for water to run away is 1:600 so why he has sloped the fall away at such an extreme level is the first question. Secondly where is the sun terrace? Because if it's suspended in anyway you need to check how thick the plinth is that the tub is going to sit on. The plinth or base needs careful calculation and needs to take into account the size of the tub together with the total weight og water and the total weight when it is full of people. The fact that he has done what he has done so far would make me suspicious and if you think about the spillage from a hot tub is minimal anyway and dries very quickly.

i agree how much water are they expecting ?
its only a like a bath, not a swiming pool. and in that heat the water would dry quickly.

Did anyone just maybe think that a large surface such as this requires a good slope not a fair slope to accomodate the rain storms they get in Tenerife. There is also a good chance the builder has done this before.

Just a thought

I lived in Spain for nearly two years and I used to help a builder install these things. I guess I helped with about 7 or 8 which I understand is not a lot. But from that little bit of limited experience we never built any with a fall for the water.

Furthermore, having met several builders in Spain there is also a good chance the builder has never installed one before! Judging by the description so far I would say he hasn't.

But surely it would depend on position afterall tenerife is not a part of spain and has a dirty great mountain which causes torencial rain, not sure how you can judge the builders ability either ??
