Hi,

Please excuse my inexperience, i'm part tiling a friends bathroom, corner shower with 405mm x 405mm Travertine tiles(eek).

I've marked the position of the tiles on the wall, vertical and horizontal and have found the tiles(where they meet in the corner) to runout by the top of the shower , by about 1-1.5 inch.

The only solution i can think of is to fit level batons midway and tile up from here, then to tile down cutting the corner tiles to fit.

Is this the correct way to do it?

Is there any other solution?

Any advice greatly appreciated

I feel as if i've bitten off more than i can chew, but i really want to learn.

I'm not quite following

Are you only tiling 1 wall and the tiles don't quite make it as high as the others?

You must go to the bubble, if the tiles run out up the corner from top to bottom, then the wall is out of plumb. Build the tiles out with cement based addy to attain level.....Gaz

Just a quick thought Monty, did you 'flip' your level when going around the room?? most spirit levels have a 1 or 2 mm discrepancy so when your drawing a horizontal line round the room you should flip your level over each time if you get what I mean?

That way any discrepancy in the bubble will even itself out. If not that 1 or 2mm could become 15-20mm by the time you get all the way round

Sorry for not replying sooner, tried to access website but the page wouldnt show.

I'll try to explain better...

The tiles are butting up to each other, in the corner of a shower, (corner shower unit)

if i keep the tiles level, from the floor upwards, by the time i reach midway and higher, there is a gap between the butted up corner tiles, of about 1-1.5 inch, due to the wall not being level.

I used a level for the horizontal and a plumb line for vertical, i didnt flip the level so will double check

Is there a way to keep the full tiles even, all the way to the top?

Would putting a baton midway and tiling up from there, then cut the tiles below the baton to fit the corner work?

Or is there another way to acheive even and level tiles on such an uneven wall?

If i am reading this correct ther is only 1 practical way to do this and that is to start by placing a mark of the chosen cut in the corner at the top and plumbing a line down. This will mean each cut coming down the wall will have to be cut at the required size ie getting smaller each time.
Thats how i am imagining your problem.

I think the problem has arisen because you have full tiles going into the corner. As walls are never square or plumb you should be having cuts into the corners. This compensates for the walls running out. Unless I have missed something.
