Estimate for en-suite help please

I've just been on my leaflet dropping duties again for a few hours and was shouted back by a man just in the middle of doing his on-suite bathroom.
He said "Can you give me a price just for the labour as i'm getting the materials from b&q"

He his plying the floor, plastering the walls and the room is roughly 2 mts x 1.5 mtrs...He wants the floor doing and the wall tiles doing to to the ceiling both out of ceramics, theres a bath sink and a window.

I told him i would come back around to measure up proper at 7.30 he said "thats fine"

Should i advice him not to use b & q adhesive and grout and i can get him BAL at trade prices??

When i get there and measured up should i charge by the metre or by day rate? How long should this take and how much should i estimate??

customer is always right if he wants to get em frm b & q or wickes or even off back of a lorry his choice

u just concentrate on job labour but insist on ur adhesvie and grout as b & q ones r very crap as well all know


look at job then tell him u wil ring tomorro think about it then which ever works easier for u i usually go by the mtr sq mark but every one is different

Be urself and look to b measuring up

Personally wouldn't entertain using what is probably Unibond from B&Q. Not good stuff!

Whether you charge by the metre or day rate depends on the job. If it is a large metreage then that is probably the best option. Smaller areas are usually best quoted at day rate.

Most important of all, be confident but not pushy, offer to take your shoes off when you arrive and be friendly. You know more than he does probably so just try and sound professional. If he asks questions give him straight answers, don't treat him like a fool or anything.

dont forget to include the window in your measurements i.e dont take it out and take your level with you if he's a diy plasterer check the state of the walls cos you may have to opt for cement addy with floor trowel instead of tubbed ( i made slight mistake on own bathroom on this one) also make sure he gets correct thickness ply and screws it down at correct spacing.

p.s dont forget to add your wastage on. Once there the nerves will go and the job will take over mate i was the same.

I think i'm just going to measure them up, and tell them am going away to work out a price and see what sort of discount i can get them on adhesive and grout and ring them up the next day as raja said...That way i wont forget anything..
